Advanced Light-Based Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

For Dry Eye

A non-invasive, light-based treatment designed to address the underlying factors of dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction.

WHAT IS IPL?

More Than Just
Temporary Relief

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive therapy that uses carefully controlled pulses of light to target the skin and tissues around the eyes. It helps reduce inflammation, support healthier eyelid function, and improves the performance of the meibomian glands - the small oil-producing glands that keep your tears stable.

How Can IPL Help Dry Eye?

By targeting the root causes of dry eye, IPL may help:

Reduce inflammation
around the eyelids and ocular surface

Support meibomian gland function
and oil flow

Improve tear-film stability
and tear break-up time

Reduce abnormal blood vessels
associated with chronic inflammation

Decrease bacteria and Demodex
arround the eyelid margins

Promote a healthier eyelid environment
for improved ocular surface comfort

What To Expect

The IPL Treatment Experience

01

Before Treatment
Your provider will evaluate your eyes and skin and determine the right settings for you. Protective eye shields are used during the procedure.

02

During Treatment
A coupling gel may be applied, and controlled pulses of light are delivered. Most patients feel a brief warmth or a light snapping sensation. Treatment takes only a short amount of time.

03

After Treatment
You may experience mild warmth or temporary redness. You can typically return to your normal activities, unless otherwise advised. Sun protection is important.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

IPL is typically performed as a series of treatments rather than a single session. Your treatment plan will be personalized based on your symptoms, skin type, meibomian gland function, and response to treatment.

Is IPL Right for Me?

During your evaluation, your provider will assess your ocular surface, eyelids, and meibomian glands to determine what may be contributing to your symptoms. If inflammation and gland dysfunction are factors, IPL may be recommended as part of your comprehensive dry-eye treatment plan.
